The Botanist

The garden terrace at The Botanist makes just the spot for alfresco drinking and dining. It offers city views, a roaring fire pit, botanical planters and rattan furniture. With its city centre location, it’s the perfect spot for after work drinks, date nights or a catch up with friends.
As you’d expect from The Botanist brand, the main draw here is the cocktails. All created with a botanical slant, options include Tomatini Plant Pot, Flower Power and The Lawnstar Martini. The food menu has influences from across the world, from Greek mezze to Asian crispy hoisin tofu bites and British classic Cumberland sausage and herby mash.

What to order: No visit to The Botanist is complete without sampling their famous hanging kebab – our favourite is the crispy panko halloumi option. Drinks-wise, you’re spoilt for choice, but for warm summer evenings, you can’t beat The Lawnstar Martini. It’s like strawberries and cream in a glass – vodka shaken with strawberry and cucumber, served with a shot of pink prosecco on the side.
KELU

If you’re looking for a slice of Mediterranean luxury, head straight to KELU. Its name is Sardinian for ‘sky’, which makes perfect sense for this chic, top-floor Kelham Island sanctuary. With a premium, date-night vibe, this sky bar pairs showstopping cocktails with a curated wine list and delicious antipasti. It feels miles away from the bustling streets below – perfect for a special occasion or a sophisticated sunset drink.
On the drinks menu you’ll find an amazing selection of Italian wines (plus French Champagne), craft beers and the cocktails KELU has become known for. Each cocktail has been created to represent the sights and tastes of Sardinia. Standouts include the Melontini and the Salted Caramel Margarita.

Perched above Pinstone Street on the third floor of the hotel, this stylish rooftop restaurant and bar overlooks the Town Hall and Peace Gardens, offering a front-row seat to the city below. Whether you’re meeting friends for cocktails, enjoying a leisurely lunch or marking a special occasion, the outdoor terrace brings a touch of luxury to the heart of Sheffield.
The menu celebrates seasonal British ingredients with a modern twist, while the drinks list includes a carefully chosen selection of wines and cocktails inspired by Sheffield. Inside, you’ll find cosy booths and sociable long tables, while outside the terrace provides one of the city’s most elegant spots for alfresco dining and drinks.

What to order: If you’re visiting on a sunny afternoon, make the most of the terrace with a Sheffield-inspired cocktail and a leisurely lunch. For something a little more indulgent, the Afternoon Tea is a standout, featuring finger sandwiches, savoury treats, homemade desserts and warm scones with clotted cream and jam.
Sky Bar at Panenka

When the sun is shining (and even when it isn’t), Sky Bar at Panenka is the ultimate modern vantage point to enjoy Sheffield from above. Located in the sleek New Era square development, this spot boasts a high-energy, trendy rooftop vibe that is tailor-made for lively weekend catch-ups, birthday celebrations, and summer drinks. Combining panoramic skyline views with a premium social experience, it bridges the gap between a sleek cocktail lounge and a vibrant entertainment hub.
You’ll find a fully stocked bar alongside pool tables, interactive darts and shuffleboard, creating a vibrant, laid-back rooftop atmosphere. Panenka serves a full bar menu featuring loaded bao buns, burgers with house fries and creamy slaw, and crispy Korean fried chicken.

Beer Gardens
Heading to a great beer garden is one of the true joys of summer, and Sheffield boasts some of the absolute best. With the finest pours from local breweries featuring heavily on the taps, it would be rude not to pull up a bench.
Triple Point Brewery + Bar

The beer garden at the Triple Point Brewery Taproom is ideal for laid-back socialising. Its outdoor terrace seats up to 180 people in comfy booths and benches, which creates a buzzing pub atmosphere on summer nights. It is a suntrap on clear days – but there is plenty of covered seating and heating if the weather turns. This spot offers a lively, industrial-chic taproom yard vibe for true beer aficionados and lively group hangouts.
The food and drink are all inspired by the city of Sheffield. The mantra of Triple Point is ‘the beer comes first’ so that’s a great place to start. You’ll find 15 beer lines pouring fresh beer all brewed onsite including the six core beers. This is supplemented by local gins, wines, cocktails and soft drinks. Food is supplied by Sheffield legend Twisted Burger Co.

What to order: The smashed burgers are the standout here, including a hard-to-come-by vegan smashed burger. For drinks, you can’t go wrong with the core lager range, Briganti and Helles but watch out for seasonal brews from fruit sours to Mexican lime and sea salt lagers.
Riverside Kelham

If there’s one thing that can improve an alfresco pint in summer, it’s drinking it by the water. The terrace at Riverside Kelham lets you do just that as it overlooks the River Don flowing by. This is the ultimate spot for casual post-work pints, muddy-boot weekend walks, and laid-back socialising, creating a brilliantly buzzing, traditional pub atmosphere on summer nights.
Food options here are comforting – think hearty home-made pies and bold street-food-inspired flavours. The drinks menu is a real celebration of local craft ales with drinks coming from Sheffield-based breweries including Abbeydale, True North Brew Co and Triple Point.

What to order: Tacos are meant to be eaten when the sun is shining. You have a choice of three fillings but we recommend the grilled fajita halloumi for summer flavours. Wash it down with a Summer Daze cocktail – a perfect beer garden blend of Teichenné Peach Schnapps, Campari, Lillet Blanc, cranberry, lemon and orange bitters.
A hidden rooftop for private parties
Beyond Sheffield’s best beer gardens and rooftop bars, there are also some seriously special private outdoor spaces available to hire for birthdays, celebrations and summer parties.
Up On The Roof at The Mowbray

Up On The Roof at the Mowbray is the venue’s private first floor rooftop which offers a complete hideaway escape with leafy green views over Park Wood Springs and historic rooftops of Neepsend.
You can expect garden cocktails and beers from the rooftop bar and a spring/summer soundtrack from the venue’s vintage 1970s speakers. The bar is heavily influenced by local fresh herbs and edible flowers. Looks out for unique treats including wildflower syrup and roast strawberry and peppercorn gin.

When to go: Up On The Roof at The Mowbray operates primarily as a private hire event space, though it is well worth keeping an eye out for their public ticketed events, including seasonal supper clubs and summer BBQs.
What to order: Spoil yourselves with Native lobster, split and barbequed with garlic butter, washed down with the Bloom Cocktail, a floral feat for the senses.
