From fresh pasta and viral bakes to a new yarn shop, community café and major plans for Parkwood Springs, these are the new openings and developments set to shape Sheffield this autumn.
There’s always something new happening in Sheffield, from independent cafés and bakeries to creative new community spaces and ambitious developments.
And there are some particularly exciting new openings on the way, with a Sardinian deli, a bigger home for one of the city’s best-loved bakeries and a brand-new yarn shop all set to open their doors.
Elsewhere, a historic building is being brought back into use, while ambitious plans for the former Sheffield Ski Village could create a major new outdoor adventure destination at Parkwood Springs.

MERCATO

A new Sardinian food destination is coming to Sheffield, from the team behind popular Italian restaurant Domo. MERCATO will be a Sardinian production kitchen, deli and shop, specialising in pasta, breads, desserts, gelato and other Sardinian products, all made in-house.
The new space will supply products to Domo’s restaurants in Sheffield and Leeds, but it will also be open to the public as a neighbourhood deli and there will also be a small seating area inside and outside, so you can stop for a coffee or focaccia sandwich.
The interiors will have a stripped-back Sardinian bakery feel, with rustic finishes, deli shelving and a pasta theatre window offering a glimpse into the production kitchen.

Bakers Yard Bakery

Bakers Yard Bakery first opened its micro bakery in Kelham Island in April 2024 and has quickly built a reputation as one of the city’s standout bakeries. Now owners Sam Lindsay and Becky Crofts are expanding into the neighbouring premises, giving them room to take the bakery to the next level.
The new space will mean a greater variety of bakes, breads, pastries and cakes, alongside bespoke celebration and wedding cakes through Bakers Yard Bespoke Cakes.
And there are even bigger plans further down the line, with the team intending to launch Bakers Yard Bistro – a French-inspired neighbourhood eatery designed to take the business into the evening.

Good to know: The move will see Bakers Yard take over the former Isabella’s Bar and Restaurant site in Kelham Island, which closed earlier this year.
Hope Kitchen Social Café

A new kind of café has just arrived in Sheffield’s S5 area, with Hope Kitchen Social Café designed to tackle food waste while bringing the local community together. Based at Longley4Green, the new initiative from ThisIsUs combines a café with community events, activities, training and workshops.
Rather than planning a menu and then buying ingredients, Hope Kitchen works the other way around. The team sources high-quality surplus food from retailers, wholesalers and local growers, before creating a changing daily menu around whatever ingredients are available.
There’s a strong focus on education, too, particularly for young people. Workshops will teach practical cooking and life skills, helping teenagers learn how to make healthy, affordable and sustainable meals from whatever ingredients they have available.
Hope Kitchen also aims to bring Sheffield’s diverse communities together, with volunteers and residents encouraged to share recipes, cooking traditions and food stories.

Parkwood Springs

One of the biggest developments on Sheffield’s horizon could transform the former Ski Village site at Parkwood Springs into a major outdoor adventure destination.
Plans have now been unveiled by Skyline Enterprises, the New Zealand-based company behind adventure attractions around the world.
The first phase of the proposed development would include Skyline Luge – its gravity-fed downhill karting attraction – alongside a scenic chairlift, an indoor educational attraction, café and terrace overlooking Sheffield, a large free-to-use outdoor plaza and family playground.
There are even bigger ambitions for future phases, including a zipline attraction and surf wave experience. The plans also include long-term ambitions to bring dry ski slopes back to Parkwood Springs, recognising the site’s history as a skiing destination.
The proposals are currently subject to public consultation, with a planning application expected towards the end of 2026. If approved, the development would be delivered in multiple phases.

Good to know: Existing walking and mountain bike trails would be retained or relocated where necessary, with public access remaining an important part of the masterplan.
Henderson’s Relish building

One of Sheffield’s most recognisable buildings is being brought back to life. Henderson’s House, part of the former Henderson’s Relish factory site on Leavygreave Road, has been part of the University of Sheffield’s estate since 2015.
Following change-of-use permission from Sheffield City Council, work is now under way to transform the historic building into a new part of campus life for students, staff and visitors.
The ground floor will become a space for events, engagement activities and changing heritage displays, while the first floor will provide office accommodation, including desks and collaborative meeting areas.
The building is currently expected to reopen in autumn 2026, subject to the progress of the works.

Sheffield Yarn Shop

Sheffield is getting a brand-new destination for knitters and crocheters, with the Sheffield Yarn Shop opening in Grafters Yard.
The new shop is the dream of owner Petra Schwarczova, founder of hand-dyed yarn company Black Elephant, who has wanted to open a bricks-and-mortar yarn shop in the city for years.
The Sheffield Yarn Shop will focus on good-quality natural and local yarn brands, alongside a wide range of crafting materials and supplies.
But this will be much more than somewhere to stock up on yarn. Petra wants the shop to become a friendly community hub where crafters can browse, learn new skills, meet other makers or simply sit down with a cup of tea and a piece of cake.
There will be regular workshops, including ‘dye it yourself’ sessions, while Petra is also planning dedicated workshop days where visitors can practise their crafts alongside other like-minded makers.
