The Yorkshire Farm That Transforms Itself with the Seasons

This is a farmyard experience like no other.

From fields full of sunflowers to pick your own pumpkins, this Yorkshire farm creates unforgettable experiences all year round.

There’s no shortage of farms in Yorkshire, but few welcome visitors the way Farmer Copley’s does. As well as a farm shop (one of the best in Yorkshire) and a scrumptious on-site cafe, they actually invite you to roam the fields.

It’s a great day out, a chance to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind as you head into the countryside to make memories surrounded by fields full of flowers or pickable pumpkins. Here’s what you can expect…

Tulips as far as the eye can see

You have to see it to believe it. They’ve planted 517,000 bulbs across a whopping five acres of farm land, creating field upon field of brightly coloured blooms come April, making this even bigger than last year.

It’s a smorgasbord of florals with 65 different varieties of tulip, ranging from Blushing Apledorn to Rodolfo and Carnaval de Rio. Each one is distinctly different – just wait until you see the pointed petals of the Lily Flowering Mix!

Five-metre-wide walkways let you roam among the fields, offering an endless supply of selfie-worthy moments, but it’s not all for show. They also have pick-your-own fields where you can build a bouquet to take home.

Summer brings a whole different experience, although it’s still of the flower variety. This time, the focus is on sunflowers – perhaps the cheeriest of flowers imaginable – and they fill the fields from here to the horizon.

Did you know there are more than 70 different varieties of sunflower? And while you may not be able to see all of them here, you will get a sense of the rich diversity of this famous flower, which is planted in August.

Like the tulip festival, it’s a great photo opportunity. But really, this is about making memories, so take your time exploring the fields, picking sunflowers as you go to create your own cheerful bouquet to take away.

A pumpkin picking extravaganza the kids will love

Families gather together with shelves upon shelves of pumpkins

Come autumn, the mood changes and so does the harvest. That’s right, it’s pumpkin picking season and they get up to all manner of spooky, farmyard activities. This one is a must for families, but first, the pumpkins.

Last year, they planted a whopping 250,000 pumpkins, and with 40 different varieties, they come in all shapes, sizes and colours. You can pick up a beast of squash for carving or a smaller Blue Crown Prince for cooking.

The tractor ride is one of the big highlights of the season. You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy them either, we loved it – but they also do magic shows, story time and fancy dress competitions, with loads of photo ops.
