Travel into York the easy way with Park & Ride

The family fun starts before you even reach the city. Your prize includes 10 Park & Ride tickets for two adults, so you can skip the city-centre traffic and parking hunt on this trip and future York visits. Travel during August 2026 and kids aged five to 15 can ride for free, leaving more of the family budget for the fun stuff.
If you’ve never used the Park & Ride before, it’s easy. Simply choose the most convenient of York’s six Park & Ride sites, park for free and catch the bus into the centre in around 15 minutes. Dedicated bus lanes keep the journey speedy, while selected services run as frequently as every eight minutes during the summer.
All of the buses have step-free access and designated spaces for buggies and wheelchairs, making the switch from car to bus even easier when you’re carrying pushchairs, bags and everything else that goes with a family day out.

Once you reach the city centre, your first stop is a tasty one. You’ll get to visit York’s Chocolate Story, taking a guided tour through centuries of chocolate-making history and finding out how local families including the Rowntree’s and Terry’s empires helped make York one of Britain’s great chocolate-making cities.
As you’d expect, there are plenty of sweet treats along the way. You’ll get to sample classic York favourites and freshly made creations, watch expert chocolatiers showcase their skills and decorate your own chocolate lolly to take home.

Next up, swap sweet treats for spell-casting with two immersive family experiences. At The Hole In Wand, you’ll take on nine holes of wizard golf, making your way past bubbling cauldrons, mysterious portals and moving paintings. Complete the course you’ll receive a potion drink to take away.
Then it’s over to The Potions Academy, where a Potion Master will introduce you to legendary alchemist Phileas Fry before teaching the whole family how to brew a concoction of their own.

Exploring York is hungry work, so your prize also includes a family meal for four at Pranzo. This city-centre Italian restaurant serves freshly made pasta for the grown-ups alongside a dedicated children’s menu.
Choose from dishes including cannelloni and lobster ravioli, while younger diners can tuck into lasagne, pizza and garlic bread. There’s even a menu to colour in, keeping them busy while you wait for your food to arrive.

After all that potion-making and chocolate-sampling, give tired legs a well-earned break with a sightseeing cruise along the River Ouse. You’ll set sail on a 45-minute journey past landmarks, historic bridges and riverside scenery, with live commentary from the captain bringing York’s past to life.
