These outdoor cinemas in Yorkshire combine the magic of the movies with the beauty of the outdoors.

Picture this. It’s a balmy summer’s night and you’re gathered to watch one of your favourite films unfold under the beauty of the stars. It’s not just a dream – it’s the magic of Yorkshire’s outdoor cinema experiences. From historic backdrops to scenic countryside settings, here are our top picks for the ultimate al fresco movie night.

Adventure Cinema at Harewood House

Perhaps one of the most iconic outdoor cinemas in Yorkshire, Harewood House’s Adventure Cinema offers all the fun of the movies against the backdrop of a stunning Georgian mansion. Screenings normally take place towards the end of August, with crowd-pleasing favourites like The Greatest Showman, Sing and Grease providing a fun-filled afternoon no matter your age.

The Village Screen

The Village Screen offers so much more than just an outdoor cinema experience. Organisers search high and low for stunning and unique locations, like the leafy surrounds of Sheffield’s Kenwood Hall, and pair events with fantastic music entertainment, tasty street food and even a fully stocked bar. The only question left – will you choose La La Land or Moulin Rouge?

Outdoor Cinema

As their name would suggest, Outdoor Cinema offers one of the best outdoor cinema experiences in Yorkshire. Every summer, they pop up around the county – be it in Hull, Thirsk or Doncaster – to screen the very best of family-friendly films, like Encanto, Grease, Wicked and The Goonies. Threatening rain? Tickets are even transferable in case of bad weather!

Cinema on the Square

Every summer, Leeds’ Millennium Square becomes a hub for movies and music with the outdoor cinema hosted by Leeds Film Festival. They screen cult classics, sing-along musical favourites, family friendly films and international gems so there’s something for everyone looking to enjoy great films in good company. Last year’s lineup included their first ever ‘Bring Your Own Dog’ event where furry friends from far and wide accompanied their owners to watch a film in the open air.
