Earthy opulence, jewel tones and the romance of early sunsets, there’s nothing quite like an autumn wedding!

If you’re planning to get hitched in the ember months, you’ll want a venue that showcases the best things about the season. Luckily, there’s no shortage of beautiful locations to host an autumn/winter wedding in North Yorkshire. Whether you’re after an extravagant affair with room for lots of guests or a more intimate setting to share your love with your nearest and dearest, this list of venues has something for everyone.

Crab Manor

The Crab & Lobster at Crab Manor Hotel is the perfect place to host a cosy autumn wedding. Their Intimate Wedding package caters to couples looking to share their big day with just their closest loved ones, setting the reception in a stunning private dining room overlooking the manor’s enchanting gardens.

Want to go bigger? They also accommodate larger groups with an Exclusive Package, which gives you free rein of the entire venue, from ceremony to sunrise. Celebrate your nuptials in the crisp country air, dancing the night away under a starry sky if you choose to use their breathtaking Pavillion. Whichever you fancy and however large or small your guestlist, you can guarantee everyone will be well fed as chefs from their renowned restaurant whip you up a seafood banquet fit for royalty– the perfect fuel for an evening spent toasting to love.

Hazlewood Castle

A sprawling, historic estate hidden in the countryside between Leeds and York, Hazlewood Castle makes a brilliant venue for a luxurious autumnal wedding. The 77 acres of magnificent woodland surrounding the castle come to life later in the year, blanketed by a gold, brown and burgundy carpet of fallen leaves– it really looks like something out of a fairy tale.

They offer several different wedding packages to suit your tastes, with different locations around the estate for you to choose from. You can celebrate in the grand halls of the castle itself, in a gorgeous marquee flooded with natural light or surrounded by nature in the woodland. The dedicated wedding team will work closely with you to tailor everything around your specific tastes (with self-catering and castle catering options available) so there’s no need to stress on the day. They even have a chapel on site where you can exchange your vows before heading off to the reception.

The grand Georgian Mansion at Middleton Lodge is the ideal location for an effortlessly elegant wedding. The fairytale feel of the main house is punctuated by a sweeping spiral staircase at the centre of the building, a perfect entryway for a beautiful couple. For the wedding itself, they have a few different rooms and locations to choose from, depending on the size of your party.

You can host the ceremony in the Drawing Room or Main Hall, enjoy an intimate wedding breakfast in the Dining Room or go for a larger reception in the Garden Marquee surrounded by the gorgeously-manicured croquet lawn. They also have the option of the original cellar, a large space with a rustic vibe, that accommodates up to 100 guests and includes your own private bar. To get the most out of an autumn wedding, however, we recommend Fig House and Walled Garden, where the autumnal landscape is on full display and floor-to-ceiling glass doors draw in those coveted golden-hour hues. Idyllic is an understatement where Middleton Lodge is concerned.

Woolas Barn

If spectacular countryside views and refreshingly unique interiors is what you’re after, look no further than Woolas Barn. Set within 500 acres of peaceful Yorkshire pastures, this rustic farmhouse is a great venue for couples looking to inject their big day with tonnes of personality. Modern finishings and rustic charm come together here, across four seamlessly-linked spaces that give you ample room to put together the wedding of your dreams.

The (still fully operational) farm has been in the same family for three generations, and for them, ensuring you have the best big day possible is personal. Wooden beams and exposed brick adorn The Stables, a popular choice for ceremonies that can be dressed up with botanical decorations or lit with fairy lights for a more magical feel. For the meal and reception, you have a choice between The Granary and The Lambing Shed with high ceilings, cosy vibes and plenty of natural light, and the courtyard, where you and your guests can roast marshmallows over the open fire pit as the sun goes down over the serene Yorkshire countryside.

There are few more emblematic places to mark the sanctity of marriage than Bolton Castle. As one of Britain’s best-preserved Mediaeval castles, the historic grounds serve as a symbol of longevity and the importance of strong foundations. The walls of this luxurious venue hold whispers of a storied past, providing a fantastic backdrop for you and your partner to embark upon a harmonious future together.

You’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Yorkshire Dales on your big day, on magnificent grounds that will blow your guests away. Imagine arriving under the archway of the magnificent iron gate, then heading into the quaint cobbled castle courtyard. You could say your vows in a beautiful candlelit room of the castle as a barn owl delivers your wedding rings, then treat your guests to falconry or archery displays while you have your photos taken in the magnificent hedge maze. Then the festivities can begin in the sprawling Great Chamber, which will be decorated exquisitely to your tastes, proving that this award-winning venue is more than worth the hype.

Bert’s Barrow

With pumpkins and gourds growing on the fields of this working farm, Bert’s Barrow is an absolute dreamland for a relaxed autumn wedding. They’ve been hosting weddings on the site for over a decade so it’s safe to say they have experience in making your big day extra special. They don’t do set packages, instead they give you full control to design a day that reflects everything that you and your partner hold dear.

Whether you’re a fun-loving couple who want a mechanical bull and square dancing, or relentless romantics who want to tie the knot surrounded by flowers as far as the eye can see, Bert’s Barrows accommodates everyone. They have three barns with space for up to 180 guests and a courtyard and paddock that can host up to 300 people for the evening affair. There are no limits on how you feast either, with room for sit-down dining, street food vendors and even an outdoor BBQ. Bert’s Barrow should be top of the list for creative couples looking for a one-of-a-kind wedding.

Falcon Manor

Second only to the beautiful couple, the views take centre stage with an autumn wedding at Falcon Manor. Set against a dramatic backdrop of rolling hills in the Yorkshire Dales, Falcon Manor has built a reputation as one of the most romantic wedding venues in the region, since its restoration in 2015. The stark symmetry of the Jacobean exterior of the country home is offset by the softness and warmth inside. With vintage fireplaces, extravagant light fixtures and intricate finishings at every turn, it really does feel like a storybook wedding venue.

They offer wedding packages with emphasis on glamour and sophistication, no matter the size of your party. Ceremonies can be hosted outside in The Pavilion, surrounded by autumn foliage or in the light-filled Garden Room overlooking the stunning terrace. The Garden Room also doubles as a dining space where your guests can enjoy a delicious wedding breakfast prepared by experienced chefs who use the best, locally sourced ingredients to craft a menu of your choosing. When it’s time to party, you and up to 150 guests can enjoy the brilliant ambiance of their exclusive bar area where you’ll be able to let loose until the early hours.

Jervaulx Abbey

If you’re going for an enchanted forest feel at your wedding, Jervaulx Abbey might be the place for you. The stunning Abbey ruins are set within 120 acres of wondrous Yorkshire countryside that looks even more phenomenal in the autumn. Not many people can say they tied the knot on the grounds of a great Cisterian Abbey, making this one of the most unique places to get married in the region.

The atmospheric ruins provide a serene and picturesque backdrop for the exchanging of vows, making that heartfelt moment all the more emotional, while the Paddock provides a charming space for a reception. You’ll be surrounded by natural beauty throughout the day and sheltered from the elements in the evening as you enjoy fantastic food, drinks and dancing with your guests in the marquee. The celebrations come to a close at midnight when you’ll be whisked away to your happy ever after in a carriage– a true fantasy brought to life!

You’ll be all set up for your big day, with no need to worry about delays as you can stay on site in the gorgeous garden cottage.
